  • The reconstruction of tomogram is done by using a suitable computational algorithm using a computer.
  • CT scanning of head is used to detect conditions such as blood clot or bleeding within the brain, stroke, brain tumors, malformations of skull etc.
  • An advantage of CT is that it can be used to image highly complex fractures, It is because of its ability to reconstruct the area of interest in multiple planes.
  • The main advantage of CAT is that it completely eliminates the superposition of images of interest.
  • The main issue with CAT is to reduce the radiation dose during the procedure. But as it may affect the image quality usually we have to use high radiation doses which can affect the patient.
  • Also the contrast agents used in CAT system can lead to chronic problems such as kidney damage.
  • Magnetic Resonance imaging or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a medical imaging technique which is commonly used in radiology to visualize the internal structures and functions of the body.
  • The most important advantage of MRI over other imaging techniques is that it can provide much greater much the body, greater contrast between the different soft tissues of the body.
  • MRI can be particularly used in detecting tumors in tissues because the protons in different tissues because the protons in different tissues return to their equilibrium state at different rates.
  • The technique is based on the subjected to a strong magnetic field hydrogen atoms of water molecule are subjected to a strong magnetic field hydrogen atoms release protons.
  • In clinical applications MRI is used to distinguish pathologic tissues such as brain tumor from normal tissues.
  • Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is used to generate pictures of arteries in order to analyze their working and abnormalities.
  • The most important advantage of MRI scan is that it is proved to be harmless to the patients.
  • In MRI by variation of scanning parameters, tissue contrast can be altered and it can be changed in various ways to detect different features.
  • As the MRI scanning does not use ionizing radiation , it is best suited for cases when a patient is to undergo the test several times successively.
  • In nuclear medicine system, small amounts of radioactive isotopes are injected into the body and it is taken up by the target organ to measure its activity.
  • Then the nuclear medicine system will count the radioactive decay from isotopes to measure whether the target organ is working well or not.
  • A detector collimator uses sodium-iodine crystal to detect the radiation collimated to its surface in nuclear medicine system and the photomultiplier tube intensifies the signal after which it is linearly amplified using a linear amplifier.
  • The dot scan recorder produces a map of dots on a paper representing the distribution of radioactivity.
