The US FDA has authorized the Pfizer-19-19 pfizer vaccine for teenagers, expanding immunization to those aged 12 to 15 years. The vaccine has been authorized to be used at 16 years and above, and this is the first time a vaccine deployed in the US has been looking for revisions to the authorization of the Emergency Use of FDA (EUA) to cover younger people.

The impact of Covid-19 in children and adolescents has been a controversial topic since the beginning of the pandemic. Although there are suggestions from a few quarters that young people cannot capture Coronavirus, the data has shown that it is not the case. However, “Children and adolescents generally have a lighter Covid-19 disease course compared to adults,” FDA said.

Between March 1 2020 to 30 April 2021, FDA said today, around 1.5 million cases of Covid-19 in young people aged 11 to 17 have been reported to the CDC. Even if the experience of Covid-19 infection is less intense, it is still potential to spread it to others. It is an insolidible obstacle to reopen school, for example.

Now, with the submission of new data that includes the administration of Pfizer-Bontech drugs to younger cohorts, the FDA expands EUA existing pharmaceutical companies.

“Today’s actions allow younger populations to be protected from Covid-19, bringing us closer to returning to normal taste and to end the pandemic,” acting Commissioner FDA Janet Woodcock, M.D. said today in a statement. “Parents and guardians can be sure that the agency conducts strict and comprehensive reviews of all available data, as we have with all the authorization of our Covid-19 vaccine emergency use.”

The vaccine will be given in the same way as it has been used, with two doses separated by three weeks. Like adults, teenagers will be considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after the second final dose.

To prove safety and efficacy, the trial includes 2,260 participants aged 12 to 15 years in the US. About half was given a Pfizer-Biontonech vaccine, and half the plasebo saline was left. Those who remember the vaccine was then followed for salvation at least two months after their second dose.

Like adults, the most frequently reported side effects for teenagers are injection-site pain, fatigue and headaches, cold, muscle pain, fever, and joint pain. More side effects reported after the second dose of the first, it was shown. “It is important to note that as a common problem, while some individuals experience side effects after any vaccination, not every individual experience will be the same and some people may not experience side effects,” the FDA shows. Important, you don’t need to feel side effects so that vaccines are effective.

The recommended vaccination test is 100 percent effective in adolescents to prevent Covid-19. It still has to be confirmed, meanwhile, is how long the vaccine will provide protection. Likewise, it is not clear at this initial stage whether the vaccine can prevent transmission between individuals.

Before vaccination can begin among children aged 12-15 years, the US CDC must meet to decide whether to advance based on FDA authorization. The CDC is expected to meet on Wednesday to decide that, with vaccination under the new extended EUA could not start until after that time.
